PredicT1D: CGM to predict dysglycemia in autoantibody-positive people

What this study tests

Recruiting Belgian study using repeated Dexcom CGM, oral glucose-tolerance tests, and (in older participants) hyperglycemic clamps to see whether glucose-variability patterns can predict dysglycemia and stage 3 T1D in people aged 5–39 who already have islet autoantibodies. It is staging science, not a treatment trial.

Evidence at a glance

Who can enter the study?
Ages 5–39, no clinical diabetes by ADA criteria, persistently positive for one or more of IAA, GADA, IA-2A, or ZnT8A. Pregnancy, immune-modulating or glucose-lowering drugs, and pancreatitis/pancreatectomy history are excluded. Registered eligibility ↗Enrollment criteria describe who may enter. They do not establish who was analyzed or the denominator for a reported result.
Reported benefit and results
No results. Recruiting; estimated n=75; actual start 9 August 2023; estimated primary completion 30 November 2027. Last registry update 17 August 2026. Sites in Liège, Bruges, Antwerp, Ghent, Jette, and Leuven.Read the result sources and their limitations →
Important harms
Read the reported results, safety discussion and original sources. A separate harms summary is not available; this does not establish safety.
Research access and approval
Study regions: European Union. A trial listing does not establish product approval or current recruitment at a particular site. Check the study’s current entry requirements.
What remains uncertain?
Read the full discussion and original sources for study limitations. Planned endpoints and completion dates are not results.

Research status alone does not establish approval, clinical benefit or local availability.

Primary endpoints

  • Progression to persistent dysglycemia in initially normoglycemic autoantibody-positive people
  • Progression to persistent dysglycemia and stage 3 T1D in multiple autoantibody-positive people

The full picture

PredicT1D asks whether CGM can see stage progression coming as well as OGTT or clamp testing can. A better screening tool would matter; it is not a delay therapy, and there are no results yet.
