Dexcom G8
Dexcom
What it is
Dexcom’s next-generation CGM programme, with a manufacturer launch target of late 2027 or early 2028. The May 2026 presentation describes a smaller, self-adapting design, but its qualitative accuracy claims do not provide an assessable clinical dataset.

Evidence behind this assessment
Key evidence notes. Study results, product eligibility and access answer different questions.
- Who was studied?
- Study populations and analysis groups vary. Product age limits alone do not describe who was studied.
- Benefit or performance
- Read the reported benefits in the full discussion. Effect sizes and study limitations are described there.
- Important harms and treatment burden
- Read the safety discussion and original sources. A missing summary does not establish safety.
- Approval and country access
- Country-specific approval and access are not summarized in this record.Approval, trial recruitment, local supply and funding are separate. Check the cited label or access source.
- Follow-up and remaining uncertainty
- Read the full discussion and original sources for follow-up duration and study limitations.
Research status alone does not establish approval, clinical benefit or local availability. This record cites company or conference reports. Those sources may describe interim findings; their source type is shown in the source list.
Editor’s take
A named development programme with disclosed design targets. Scores are withheld because the public presentation reviewed here does not establish measurable G8 performance, clinical benefit or final approved specifications.
The full picture
What has been announced. Dexcom’s presentation dated 14 May 2026 describes G8 as a smaller sensor platform with adaptive electronics, factory calibration and a design target of 50% smaller than G7. These are manufacturer development claims, not final authorized specifications.1
Accuracy remains unassessed here. The company says clinical testing showed improved accuracy and fewer outliers, citing data on file. Its slide gives no numerical MARD, study population, sample size or confidence interval from which to assess that claim. It does not support a performance ranking against available CGMs.1
Timing and wear are targets. The deck targets a launch in late 2027 or early 2028. A separate portfolio slide describes 15 days as the baseline for future products; it does not establish a final G8 wear label or grace period. The presentation warns that forward-looking plans may change.1
What is still unknown. Approved ages, regional authorizations, final wear limits, pump pairings, alert performance and ketone-sensing capability are not established by the reviewed G8 disclosure. We retain the programme for discovery, with no numerical scores until sufficiently complete original performance evidence can be assessed.1
